 AGRAND DAY OUT

'Bring your own snap"

What's Happening?

Imagine sitting in the midsummer's sunshine feasting on a delicious picnic with your family, lounging on a blanket with wicker basket full of treats!

You are drinking fizz, lounging in the sunshine (Be positive!)  as you experience one of the most exciting and contemporary jubilee events in Yorkshire.

Starting at 1pm the gates open.. choose your perfect picnic spot and set yourself up on your blankets and get settled for the day…. Children are invited to bring their favourite teddy bear to their picnics and enjoy the various Paddington and ENCANTO themed activities.

Enjoy workshops, entertainment and stalls, see art installations and take part in the various creative activities around the site or perhaps you will choose to settle in front of the large screen and watch the outdoor movie?

Paddington Wood will have a free library and story telling throughout the day. Paddington activities will take place here too for those of you feeling crafty!

Throughout the day you can explore and walk through the woodland nook to find a secret and magical area full of surprises and treats… only to emerge at The Burghwallis Pub where there will be live music, a jubilee PICNIC *, stalls and many more lovely surprises going on into the night.

As evening arrives and dusk begins, you light your lanterns and we light the fairy lights ready for the evening movie... have a singsong  while watching Encanto for the rest of the night...

As the film draws to a close you will be invited to a closing ceremony where candles and lanterns will be lit in a vigil for peace.

There will be various installations and opportunities to support Ukrainian families , our peace and wish tree, post box and art installations will be available all day in the woodland area for you to leave messages and letters of hope..

Explore the website for more information and to find out why Burghwallis is the perfect place to celebrate with Paddington Bear!

Burghwallis- The Birthplace of Paddington!!

Unknown-2.jpeg
Did you know that Paddington Bear was first brought to life right here in the village?

For Shirley Clarkson ( Mother of Jeremy) made the first bears for her son and daughter, Joanna, for Christmas 1971, complete with little duffel coats, wellies - and of course, a miniature suitcase for those all important marmalade sandwiches.

Unforgettable

Memories

The bears were so widely admired that she decided to make and sell them, first from the family home in Burghwallis and then later, as business boomed, Gabrielle Designs was formed and premises found alongside the A1.

Inspired by the popular Michael Bond books, the family’s farmhouse kitchen was the production line for many years before the arrival of 'The Bear Garden', as it was dubbed.

When the then owner of the property, Alistair Owens put Home Farm up for sale in 2012 after buying it from the Clarksons in 1987, he said: "The house was best known for Paddington when we bought it and we certainly had one or two people knocking at the door asking to meet him when we first moved in".

“I know Eddie (Shirley’s husband) used to make marmalade sandwiches for any children that visited,” he said.

We are delighted to be able to bring Paddington to this years celebrations and will be showing the Paddington Movie in the afternoon slot. The perfect British film for a coronation celebration.  Book your tickets for the movie HERE.
